The Georgian Vine Foundation unites enthusiasts and winemakers in the aim of further spreading and popularizing Georgian grape varieties. The Foundation’s main goals are: seeking, planting, and testing and spreading the wine of Georgian grape varieties that are near extinction. At this stage, the following grape varieties are planted in the Georgian Vine Foundation’s 1-hectare vineyard, located in Chortauli in the village of Bakurtsikhe, Gurjaani Municipality: Khikhvi, Mtsvivani Kakhuri, Kisi, Ghvinis Tetri, Mtsvane Kakhuri, Saperavi Budeshurisebri, Rkatsiteli, Vardisperi Rkatsiteli, and Hamburg Muscat. The vineyard is sprayed with contact preparations permitted in organic viticulture. Herbicides and pesticides harmful to the environment are not part of the viticulture process. The Georgian Vine Foundation has been making natural wines since 2014, primarily in kvevri.
